Material evidence and due-diligence records for battery supply chains

Valent keeps supplier declarations, origin documents, and chain-of-custody records organized by requirement, ready for customer qualification, third-party verification, and the documentation the EU Battery Regulation phases in through 2027.

Why it matters

Customers ask for the evidence before regulators do

Under the EU Battery Regulation, EV, LMT, and industrial batteries over 2 kWh placed on the market from 18 February 2027 need a battery passport, and supply-chain due-diligence obligations apply from 18 August 2027 for cobalt, natural graphite, lithium, and nickel. The source evidence for both sits with suppliers today, and buyers already ask for it during qualification.

A customer qualification asks for origin and custody evidence on cobalt, lithium, nickel, and graphite inputs, per supplier and per site.

Battery passport fields are owed at market placement, but the source documents live in supplier emails and shared drives.

Due-diligence records have to identify upstream actors in the supply chain, and third-party verifiers will ask how each record was reviewed.

A material substitution changes the evidence trail mid-qualification, and no one flags the stale declarations.

Use cases

Where Valent fits

Valent sits between suppliers, documents, reviewers, and customer requests so evidence stays current before the audit window opens.

Material evidence intake

Organize supplier declarations, certificates of analysis, origin documents, and custody records by material, supplier, and site.

Due-diligence documentation

Keep the records behind your chain-of-custody system: material descriptions, upstream supplier identities, and origin evidence, all current and reviewable.

Passport source evidence

Collect and version the supplier evidence behind battery passport fields before batteries are placed on the market.

Qualification packet release

Assemble customer and verifier packets with source references, approvals, and version history intact.

How it works

From scattered evidence to controlled release

Valent can classify documents, surface gaps, and draft supplier follow-up, but every record keeps its source reference and external actions stay approval-gated, so the evidence trail holds up under review.

01

Collect supplier and material evidence into one reviewable workspace.

02

Map due-diligence, passport, customer, and internal requirements to the source files that support them.

03

Monitor document freshness, supplier changes, and missing proof between qualification and audit windows.

04

Route supplier chases, exceptions, and packet releases through human approval.

05

Release the packet with source references, signatures, and version history attached.

Implementation

What implementation looks like

Valent maps the material evidence that qualification needs, connects the supplier declarations and origin records behind it, and keeps the trail current for the passport and due-diligence requirements phasing in through 2027.

01

Map the material requirements

Translate the customer qualification, battery passport, and due-diligence requirements into a requirement-level evidence map by material and site.

02

Connect supplier and origin evidence

Supplier declarations, certificates of analysis, origin documents, and chain-of-custody records are organized around the requirements they support.

03

Set review and release gates

Supplier chases, evidence overrides, and packet releases stop for approval, with every record keeping its source reference.

04

Monitor changes and expirations

Material substitutions, expiring declarations, and missing proof surface as review items before a qualification or verification stalls.

Implementation starts with the qualification a customer is already running.

Valent turns that first packet into the rollout: the requirements to map, the evidence to connect, the reviewers to assign, and the controls that keep release safe.
